This just in: Indulgence Beauty salon has recently become the latest celebrity hot spot in Kent!

Hollywood actress, Shenae Grimes, of TV series 90210 fame, has recently been visiting Indulgence for her beauty treatments in preparation for her upcoming wedding.

Shenae tweeted this gorgeous picture of herself and now-husband Josh Beech with a beautiful bouquet of red flowers, off-set by her black tulle wedding dress, designed by Vera Wang.

Last night the Indulgence girls put on their dancing shoes to help celebrate one of our favourite client’s 40th birthdays! And with the theme being ‘Glitz and Glam’, we knew we had to step it up for the occasion.

As with preparation for any night out, we started with spray tans on Thursday night to give us all a lovely sun-kissed golden glow (despite the weather being a little temperamental at the moment!). We even had the birthday girl pay us a visit for all her treatments to look extra gorgeous for the big night!

Next, it’s time for nails – Jamie-Leigh went for her favourite bright pink shade, Kelly opted for a deep blue to match her navy silk dress, and Lauren went for a liquorice shade to off-set her white dress. As you can see, a lot of thought goes into this!
For the night itself, we all put on our different make up looks – smoky eyes, thick lashes, bright pink lips… Between us we try to each work a new trend each! Always using the gorgeous Bare Minerals brand, of course. The final piece to finish the look for Jamie-Leigh is to add in her favourite Halo Hair extensions, which are attached by a hoop (like a head band on a wire) that sits on the centre of the head and is invisible once attached. It can also be whipped off easily at the end of the night, so no messing about with clip in extensions when you’ve had a few wines!

Everyone’s favourite reality TV family, The Kardashians, are now branching their ever-growing business empire into fake tan. The gorgeous trio of sisters always look their best, and, according to Kim, a tan is her must-have accessory at all times. Kim tells Marie Claire; ‘I think tanning has really been a way of life for all of us, living in California,’ she says. ‘Especially, more recently, the need for sunless tan. When I travel, the one thing that makes me feel alive whether or not I have makeup on is a tan, especially in my face.’

… We couldn’t agree more, Miss Kardashian! Here at Indulgence, we’re all big fans of fake tanning, and it looks like the trend for a healthy glow on your skin isn’t going anywhere. (Despite the snow currently outside…)

Fake tans, or ‘sunless tanners’ are great to give you a pick-me-up when you’re feeling a little dull and your skin is looking a bit pale. They are also safe to use, and, with new improved formulas being brought out all the time, they are easy to apply and natural looking (depending how dark you want to go, of course!)

Our personal favourite tanning system has to be the spray tan. Most of the Indulgence girls have one a week to keep us glowing all year round. The spray tanning method allows for precise and even coverage over the whole body, giving a golden, even tan all over. We recommend exfoliating prior to treatment to remove all dead skin cells and enable a smoother application. We also ask that all shaving and waxing be done at least 48 hours before having the tan, as this prevents any dots appearing from the tan settling into open pores on the skin surface. Barrier cream is applied over knees, elbows, hands and feet, as these areas tend to take to the tan more than other parts of the body, helping even out the tone of the tan shade. We then recommend moisturising every day to keep the tan looking fresh and natural, as it eventually begins to wear away after around 5-7 days. You can always top up areas on the body that may fade quicker, such as hands and the face from extra washing.

Texan Singer/Songwriter, Kat Edmonson, has been named the face of BareMinerals new beauty campaign. The ‘Be a force of beauty’ campaign was started in 2011, sharing original stories of inspirational women.

Kat has been specially chosen for the campaign by Executive Chairman of the brand, Leslie Blodgett, who sought the singer after hearing her on the radio.

‘She was different; her voice, her story… she immediately touched my soul,’ says Leslie.

This new role for Kat will mean she will be more involved with social media aspects of the brand, promoting through special showcase performances, sharing music downloads and even getting the crowd involved, seeing different make-up looks from fans and music lovers watching the shows.

With the recent cold weather, frosty starts to the mornings and hot central heating blowing through buildings, all these temperature changes are playing havoc with our skin. We’re desperately waiting for spring to appear… But whilst we’re still battling the elements it’s as important as ever to keep skin condition at its best.

Our favourite skin care brand, Dermalogica, recommends a three or more step programme to improve overall skin condition, texture and tone using their expert products and advice. All of our therapists are trained in Dermalogica skin care (as well as being avid users of the brand themselves; we like to practise what we preach) and would love to show you the different their products can make to your skin and your confidence.

The basic three step regime for any skin care fanatic is the cleanse, tone moisturise routine; recommended by therapists, industry professionals and beauty editors alike.
Cleansing is the first step; removing all traces of make-up, oily residue, dirt and grime that may have built up during the day or overnight. We recommend cleansing every morning and night. This is followed by a spritz of toner, which is a hydrating spray solution that preps the skin to allow it to fully absorb the chosen moisturiser. Once the toner has dried, add a small amount of moisturiser to hands and add in light strokes to the face. These basic steps will help improve the skin during the winter months and beyond. Once clients have got to grips with their new routine, we start adding new products to the mix should they feel their skin needs that little extra treatment. Even though it’s been snowing outside and we’re battling freezing temperatures, us girls know that having your waxing all year round is essential, come rain or shine! With this in mind, we thought we’d blog about the difference a good wax can make to your skin.

Most salons use traditional strip wax in their treatments; a hot creamy wax that is applied to the skin and lifted with a paper strip. This type of wax can be used on all areas, most typically legs, eyebrows and arms.

Our personal favourite type of wax to use is hot wax. In our salon we use the Lycon brand Hot Chocolate Wax, which has been specifically formulated for more sensitive areas of the skin and is known to be less painful than traditional strip wax. Here’s how…

Prior to waxing, a sweep of oil is applied to the area to act as a barrier between the skin and the wax. Next, a layer of hot wax is added in light strokes, bringing the hairs to the surface and getting stuck into the hot wax as it sets to a hard mould. Once set, the edge of the wax is pulled clean off the skin. With the oil between the wax and skin, and without the use of paper strip, there is less friction and sting than associated with the usual strip wax method.

Hot wax also has many benefits to the condition of your skin, including helping to prevent ingrown hairs, which can become trapped underneath the skin when trying to regrown. The method of hot waxing helps decrease ingrowing hairs due to less friction on the skin and, after time, helps lessen hair regrowth and thickness. It is also much kinder to the skin, especially more sensitive skins prone to redness and sensitivity.
