Nude peep toe – Glittered eyes, glossy lip
The fail-safe shoe, that goes with everything; everyone has a nude peep toe in their wardrobe. To glam up this shoe staple, we recommend adding some sparkle. Start by adding a little Vaseline to the eye lid, and dipping your regular eye shadow brush into your chosen pot of glitter. Use the back of your hand to dab off any excess. Work the glitter by patting the brush on the outer corner of your eye, and slowing blending in towards to inner corner. This will give a more subtle, gradual effect to the make-up, slowly building the intensity of the glitter across the eye lid, giving a lovely shimmer to the eyes. Add a natural blush to your make-up base and a glossy lip to finish.

Leopard court shoe – Smoky eye, nude matte lip
Leopard is the print of choice for most girls, and the smoky eye the same effect for make-up. Put both together and you’ve got a hot evening look. Start by using a natural pink tone eye shadow as your base, covering the entire lid. Then, using a grey or silver shade, apply the shadow from about half way across the lid and blend to the outer corner. Blend the line between the pink and grey shadows for a seamless look. Then, take a darker grey or black shadow and pat gently in the outer corner of the eye, before blending slightly towards to half way mark over the lid. Line underneath the outer corner of the eye with the darker shadow and a liner brush, going halfway underneath the bottom lash line, or right up to the inner corner of the eye, depending on how dramatic you want the look to be. Add some liner on the inner line of the bottom lash to finish. Add lashing of mascara and a nude lip stick to complete the look (blot the lipstick for a more matte effect).

Hot red wedges – Winged eye liner, false lashes
A stand-out shoe needs a dramatic look to match, and a feline flick is the perfect compliment. Add a slick of intense black liquid liner to the lid; beginning at the inner corner of the eye, and making the line slightly thicker as it travels to the outer corner. Re-dip your liner to make the winged flick, carefully matching up the original liner, drawing a diagonal flick to create the wing effect. Neaten up the line with the end of the liner pen. Then, carefully match up the second eye to create the same look. Take your chosen false lashes, and apply to the lid, as close to the lash line as possible. Once dry, redraw over the edge of the false lashes where it overlaps the liner to ensure the intense black colour is still intact. Repeat for the other side, and add a lipstick or gloss of your choice (depending how brave you are!)

Black strappy sandal – Statement red lip
A classic shoe needs a simple and effective look. The statement red lip is the icon of all make-up looks, recreated time and time again over the decades. Use a lip primer to give a flawless surface on which to build the colour. Once set, trace the outer line of the lips with a red lip liner, carefully dipping over the cupids bow to give a full, sexy pout. Then, fill in the middle with your favourite red lip stick, filling in gaps by blending with a lip brush and stain if you’re not so confident using lipstick alone. Blot lips on tissue paper and reapply, to give a stronger colour and longer lasting effect. Try a sealant on top of the finished application to ensure the colour stays put. Add lashings of black mascara to eyes to off-set the look for full-on Hollywood glamour.

We hope you’re all well and had a lovely weekend.
We thought it best to write a quick post to explain to all our regular clients why our Head Therapist, Gemma, has been out of the salon for a while. Unfortunately, Gemma has had a severe case of pneumonia, and has been in and out of hospital over the past month or so. She has been very poorly as a result, and is still trying to rest to make a full recovery before returning to the salon.

We know many of Gemma’s regular clients have been asking where she has been, so we wanted to thank everyone for their concern and well wishes, and have been passing on your messages to Gemma and Kelly. Gemma is making good progress in her recovery, and has popped in to see us in the salon several times to check everything is running smoothly. However, for the foreseeable future, Gemma will not be carrying out treatments or working in the salon, and we are not sure of the exact date she will return to work. We will keep everyone updated and let you know when she will be back permanently.

Thank you again to everyone for their support, and we hope to see you all soon. Due to Gemma’s absence, the salon has been very busy, so remember to call and book in for appointments well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Winged Liner: Jonathan Saunders Spring/Summer ’12
With bold prints and patterns on the clothes, the designer decided to keep things more simple on the make-up front for his spring/summer show. Using a thick black eye liner to contrast the bright and pastel colours of the collection, made the beautiful dresses stand out even more.

To get the Jonathan Saunders look, first start with a black liquid eye liner (the best one’s come with a pointed tip, for easier application when making the wing shape). Starting at the inner corner of the eye, use the very tip of the liner pen to begin to draw a line, finally reaching to the outer corner of the eye; starting off thin and gradually making the line thicker as you draw to the other side of the lid. When you get to the outer corner, dip you liner pen back into the liquid formula and carefully add the wing shape, picking up from the line where you left off at the outer corner of the eye. The tricky part is getting the angle right, so it’s best to try and get roughly a 45 degree diagonal line, going up from the corner of your eye and directed towards to brown bone. Once you have made the line (as long or short as you desire), you can trace over to make it thicker, evening the original line as you go. Keep the rest of your make-up natural, with a pink flush of blusher and nude/pink lips to finish your catwalk ready look.

Chocolate Lip: Donna Karan Spring/Summer ‘12
Statement lipstick can be hard to wear with all the different outfits, trends and colours we have stocked in our wardrobe, and it’s hard to know which shades harmonize well, and which ones clash. Donna Karan has made things easier for us by using the matte chocolate lip as the shade of choice when trying statement lipstick this season. Chocolate brown is the ideal shade for this look, being both part of the neutral colour palette and yet still strong enough to carry off as a statement for your entire make-up look.

We recommend firstly moisturising the lips with a good lip balm 5-10 minutes before applying, then blotting the excess moisture with a tissue. This allows the lipstick to glide on easily and without flaking. Then line the lips, taking particular care over the cupids bow area to define well, using the correct shade to match your chosen lipstick. Take your chosen shade of chocolate lipstick and apply using the liner as a guide. Blot with a tissue and re-apply to ensure maximum coverage and long-lasting effects. Finish with a coat of sealant to for longer lasting colour. Aside from the lips, make-up should be minimal, letting your skin shine through. To get the full Donna Karan look, buff up eyebrows to make them big and bold, and use a little black mascara to contrast the more neutral tones.

Colour Pop: Jil Sander Spring/Summer ‘12
Colour blocking doesn’t have to end at your outfit; now you can extend to your make-up. Raf Simons at Jil Sander decided to do just that for his catwalk show for spring, giving a flick of blue eye liner and a full red pout to go with it. Wear with an all-over clashing colour on your outfit for maximum impact.

To get the look, take a light blue liner, preferably liquid, and carefully draw a thin line across the lid to the outer corner of the eye. Check the line is straight – if not gradually build up to make sure the line looks even and symmetrical. If using a pencil liner, it may be easier to gently smudge the line to give a softer look and create a more even line. For full red lips, start by adding a small amount of lip balm to the lips (as before), then blot away excess with a tissue, to prevent flaking and dryness. Using a bright red lip liner, trace carefully around the outer line of the lips, and gently rub the pencil lightly over the lips, inside the lines, to shade inside. This will help the lipstick stay on longer. Then take your bright red lipstick and apply, using the lip liner as a guide. Fill in with a thin lip brush if it is a bit tricky to keep the lipstick even. Finish with a lipstick sealant and keep the rest of make-up fresh and natural with a hint of blusher on top of cheekbones.

We hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend. We’ve been working hard as usual, and have some exciting prospects coming up in the Indulgence diary over the next few months.

We have several new courses booked up for our girls, including Bare Minerals Advanced, Express Blink and Go Lashes, and celebrity favourite, HD Brows.

Nicole will be attending the Express Lash course, run by Nouveau Lashes; a trusted and well respected brand we already use in the salon. This course is specialised to create a full and thick set of individual lashes, in just 30 minutes. We think this will be a hugely popular choice for our clients, as the set lasts up to 2-3 three weeks with no infills required. Once the lashes have naturally fallenout, it’s time for a newset. These lashes are the perfect choice for a holiday, or special occasion,that will last for a long time with no maintenance.

HD Brows have fast become a celebrity favourite, and a now iconic brand to give clients the perfect shaped eye brow. The treatment is a thorough way of defining your brows, using waxing, threading, plucking and a special formula tint, which all work in unison to create the perfect eyebrow shape for your face. With celebrity fans such as the TOWIE girls, we can’t wait to have the service in the salon.

Two more of our staff will be learning the Bare Minerals basics, to get them up to scratch on the Bare Minerals kit and the way the make-up works with your skin, rather than against it. Others in the salon will be attending the Advanced course, which builds upon the make-up knowledge of the last course to teach how to create new looks. This includes eye make-up, lips, cheeks, and other tips and tricks taught by a beauty industry professional. We look forward to hearing all about the course when the girls return, ready to put their new skills into practice.
